about

This is a live recording of the very first performance of "14-18" on Remembrance Sunday, 9th November 2014, written and composed by Tom Moriarty.

A tale of love and war, "14-18" tells the story of a couple who are separated and then united by the first world war. It follows the soldier to the trenches of the western front and his wife left at home fighting her own battles on the home front. It is inspired by the experience of Harry Patch, the last surviving soldier to have fought in the trenches who Tom was fortunate enough to have met when Harry was a spritely 109. Tom was the last person to have interviewed him before he died at 111. "14-18" tells of how war corrodes the soul but how the human spirit survives as the couple are ultimately reunited and wish to look to the future whilst burying the war's murky past.

The musical was first staged on Remembrance Sunday as a mark of respect to all those that suffered during the First World War and other wars and in particular as a salute to Harry Patch.

In remembering the dead, we celebrate the living
In commemorating war, we celebrate peace
