The Shore was recorded in a tiny wood vaulted chapel in a tiny hill top village in Southern France where Tom now spends a lot of time. It is very much inspired by the surrounding beauty in nature that Tom discovers when trekking with his trusty companion, a German Shepherd called Watson. The songs are a reflection on life, a collection of stories relating to his own life but also to the lives of others and the world we live in. As ever, there is message within his music and whilst there is rage, anger and sadness there is also hope, strength and victory.
It is just Tom and his guitar so a stripped out live recording where you can hear Tom's intricate guitar work that accompanies his smokey, oaky, cracked granite voice which is often said to be a mix of the rage and tone of Eddie Vedder but with the soul of Ray Lamontagne. This is a fine record of the first ever performance of this album and one to have in your collection.
